What kind of cameras do you use?

We only use “three CCD” (or “three chip”) cameras and anything less is really not appropriate to shoot a wedding. Three chips produce much clearer and more accurate colours (even in low light) than one chip. For example, this candlelight dance performance was shot in low light...

Will shooting interfere with or distract from the actual wedding?

We pride ourselves on being absolutely unobtrusive. This is your wedding and not our film set. We maintain a low profile in a number of ways:

a) LIGHTING: because our cameras are highly light-sensitive, we are able to work with little or no external lighting equipment. We use camera-mounted lights (out of everyone’s way and always on-hand). These lights are soft and adjustable, never overly glaring. Want proof? Take a look at some of our dance reception footage and notice that it’s clear (even though it’s shot in low light) and the guests are not blinking like deer caught in headlights. In fact, they don’t seem to notice the camera at all; they’re just having a good time!

b) SET-UP: we use a combination of tripods, monopods, and hand-held camera set-ups, depending on what’s appropriate. We do not use cranes because they are obtrusive and hinder our documentary-style approach to capturing intimate moments.

c) PROFESSIONAL CAMERAMEN: we are established in the fields of live television, documentary, or similar live event coverage. We are highly-skilled at capturing the action without being a part of it. We shoot and edit video full-time: if not weddings, then other live events, documentaries, short films, etc.

What do the cameramen wear?

They dress as if they are guests at your wedding: no jeans, no sneakers, discreet and professional.

Can you do multiple-camera shoots?

Yes. We recommend using two cameras (and two cameramen) for large weddings with more than 200 guests. Then, through the art of editing, we can cross-cut between the two cameras for a dynamic wedding video.

Using two cameras allows us to cover the bride and groom simultaneously even if they are in separate locations and then we can switch to a multiple angle shoot when the bride and groom are united.

What’s your sound quality like?

It is easy to forget about sound when you are thinking about video. This is a huge mistake because watching video with horrible sound is incredibly frustrating. We use external wireless microphones to ensure we capture the vows, speeches, etc. loud and clear. Don’t worry: the clip-on microphone is tiny, virtually invisible, and wireless so you will be free to move around naturally.

What’s your style?

This is an important question! Don’t be seduced by a lot of dazzling animation and special effects – it might not be the look you want. And it might look cheesy in the years to come.

We are all about capturing the drama of real life. There are no second takes.

The editing style is elegant, classic and tells the story of your wedding. We mix in music (of your choice) for montage segments when appropriate and transition seamlessly into natural sound and real-time action when most effective. We want to create an accurate archive of your wedding, but we also want to tell a compelling and emotional story.

Do you shoot on digital tape? Do you edit digitally? Do you output digitally?

Yes, yes, and yes.

We shoot on digital tape: specifically, mini DV.

Your wedding is edited digitally on an Avid system. You might recognize the Avid logo at the end of Hollywood movies and TV shows because it is the software professionals use.

Furthermore, not only is your wedding shot and edited digitally, it is outputted digitally onto DVD. Because your footage never leaves the digital domain, your video stays crisp throughout the capture, edit and output process.

Video Tip!
While an overhead crane shot is impressive in feature films, its appeal is rather limited in a wedding situation. As for the fluidity of a crane, it's nothing a steadicam-certified camera genius who moves with the grace of a ballet dancer can't handle. View more Tips.
